Lucky Stripe Shower Curtain Design

8:50 PM

Today I was thinking about posting about adding new table cloths and place mats for an easy change to your home decor but got side tracked with the Lucky Stripe Shower Curtain and matching accessories. In another post I'll talk about place mats and table linens and various ways to use them. Today, I'm fixated on this airy looking shower curtain, Lucky Stripe. Now that it's summer time and the weather is 100 degrees already I started looking through the collections that bring an airy and cool feel. The Lucky Stripe Collection with it's various color palette of vertical stripes is great for any bath. Teenagers love this as much as adults and depending upon how you choose to accessorize your bath, it can take on a traditional look or one with a modern flair. While the bath towels are being discontinued, using solid colored towels that play more on the shower curtain and waste basket and other accessories will give more character and personalization to this collection. The round lotion pump surprisingly can hold a lot of liquid soap or your favorite lotion. The soap dish features a slightly different shape with a higher back than the front and is a great place to add a few decorative soaps or potpourri or store your trinkets while freshening up at the bathroom sink. The ceramic bath accessories also include a three piece jar, which I will admit I broke the first time I took one out of the box. I didn't know there were three pieces and well...you can easily imagine what happened. Anyway, this jar I think is really great and can hold cotton balls, q-tips or anything else you want to store in it and looks fantastic on the counter top or a shelf away from the other accessories to help unify the entire collection. If you've never considered a multi-colored bathroom collection and want to give one a try, Lucky Stripe is great and has enough colors for you to bring in a bit of your creativity and emphasize the colors you enjoy most.

How to Refresh an Old Shower Curtain

8:20 PM

Shower curtains are often the focal point of the bathroom. Over time, curtains can start looking dingy and worn. Even after a good washing, an old curtain may never resume its original sparkle. Before you toss it and buy a new one, consider these simple ways you can give that old curtain new life.

  1. tep1

Wash the old curtain according to the washing instructions on the label. Allow it to dry.

  2. Step2

If working with a cloth curtain, sew on buttons, sequins, or decorative appliques. Create a border, trim or cover the whole curtain. Be creative in the materials you choose to embellish the curtain.

  3. Step3

Indulge your inner artist. Using cloth or acrylic paint, create anything from a soothing seascape to funky polka dots. Take in the existing design scheme of your bathroom when deciding on your painting technique.

  4. Step4

Add see-through pockets to display photographs, postcards or other hand-selected pictures on vinyl curtains. Clear pockets can be easily affixed using a hot glue gun. Contents can be switched out on a regular basis to keep the look fresh and exciting.

  5. Step5

Instead of rings, use colorful scarves to secure the curtain to the rod. This adds a creative detail and splash of color.

How to Buy Shower Curtains

8:14 PM

No shower or bathtub is complete without a shower curtain. Shower curtains are not only decorative but they prevent the water from splashing all over your clean bathroom floor. They come in a variety of materials, colors, sizes and designs.

  1. Step1

Measure your bathroom shower stall or bathtub. If you have an old-fashioned clawfoot bathtub, more than likely you'll need more than one set of shower curtains to go around the entire tub. However, if you have standard sized modern tub/shower, more than likely you can get away with buy one set of standardized shower curtains.

  2. Step2

Determine what material you would like before you shop. Some shower curtains are plastic and others are of a cloth material. The clear plastic shower curtains are cheaper but are difficult to wash. Those made out of cloth material require a shower lining to prevent the water from soaking through.

  3. Step3

Choose your color or theme. If you're matching your shower curtain to the rest of your bathroom, bring a swatch of fabric or a sample of paint that you've used in your bathroom decor to the store with you. A shower curtain can also be the first step of a whole new look for your bathroom.

  4. Step4

Know your budget. Shower curtains vary in price range. You can buy them as cheap as a couple of dollars to as expensive as several hundred dollars. Review your budget before you go into the store so you don't overspend.

  5. Step5

Remember to buy shower hooks. Nothing says style better than having shower hooks that match the decor of the shower curtains.

How to Design Bathroom Shower Curtain

5:34 PM

The shower curtain is the focal point of many bathroom designs. Depending on your bathroom theme, finding the perfect shower curtain for your decor can be a big hassle, so deciding to create your own really opens up your options. If you can sew a straight line, then you can design a bathroom shower curtain.

Step 1

Find the perfect fabric. A great pattern or color can really make a bathroom pop, so explore your options carefully when designing your shower curtain. Fabric curtains are the easiest to construct, and you can use almost any fabric. You can even use flat sheets if you want to coordinate your bathroom with an adjoining bedroom. Steer clear of silks and other dry-clean only fabrics, since normal use can damage them.

Step 2

Think about the header of your curtain. This decision may take the most time when you're designing your curtain. You can choose to create pleats, ruffles, simple holes or maybe a tabbed top. There are many possibilities, so use your imagination to make the curtain just right.

Step 3

Mix and match fabrics. Adding a strip of contrasting color to the top or bottom of your shower curtain is an easy way to stretch a patterned fabric and still add interest to the room. You can coordinate the solid colors in your shower curtain with your towels and other accessories.

Step 4

Add interesting shower curtain rings. There are many different options when it comes to hanging your curtain, so keep this in mind when designing your curtain. You can choose cute ducks or frogs, or even create your own hangers using supplies found at your local craft store.
